AI Content Workflows That Convert

The magic isn't in the AI — it's in the system around it.

Dear Growth Designers 👋

I'm Liz Elfman, a content strategist at ServiceNow by day and a fractional content consultant on nights and weekends, including helping out the the GrowthDesigners community. I’ve spent the last year figuring out how to make AI actually useful for growth teams — beyond just a fancy autocomplete tool.

While everyone's debating whether AI will replace copywriters, smart teams are turning AI into their secret weapon for scaling high-converting content. They've cracked the code on workflow design (not just prompt engineering). That’s the difference.

Today I'm sharing three AI content workflows that actually move the needle on conversion metrics. These are battle-tested systems I use with clients hitting 6-figure growth targets.

Let's dive in, Liz Elfman

An AI Content Reality Check

Here's what I've learned after running hundreds of AI content experiments: the magic isn't in the AI — it's in the system around it.

Most teams approach AI like a magic wand: throw in a prompt, expect perfect content. What they get instead is generic fluff that sounds like every other AI-generated piece on the internet.

The teams seeing real results? They treat AI like a junior copywriter that needs structure, feedback loops, and quality control. They've built workflows that consistently produce content that converts.

You’ll notice that I always give an AI client the opportunity to ask me any clarifying questions. That’s because the best outcomes are derived from a conversation with your AI.

Workflow #1: The Brand Voice Amplifier

The Problem: Your AI content sounds nothing like your actual brand.

The Solution: Train AI to become your brand's voice, then systematically refine it.

Step 1: Create Your Brand Voice Persona

Here is the specific prompt you can copy/paste directly (but obviously, fill in the blanks!)

You are the voice of [COMPANY]—a [PERSONALITY TRAITS] brand that helps [TARGET AUDIENCE] [MAIN BENEFIT].

You write like [TONE DESCRIPTION]. Your copy feels [EMOTIONAL QUALITIES]. You never [WHAT TO AVOID]. You always [WHAT TO INCLUDE].

Example of our voice: [PASTE 2-3 EXAMPLES OF YOUR BEST COPY]

Ask me any clarifying questions before you proceed.

Step 2: Feed The Machine Your Best Content

Give AI 5-10 examples of your highest-converting content. Include:

  • Email subject lines that got high open rates

  • Landing page copy that converted

  • Social posts that drove engagement

Step 3: Set Up Voice Validation Loop

After every AI output, ask: "Rate this content 1-10 for brand voice accuracy. Explain your reasoning and rewrite to improve."

Why This Works: AI learns your patterns and starts mimicking your successful content naturally.

Workflow #2: A Conversion-First Content Machine

The Problem: AI creates content that sounds good but doesn't drive action.

The Solution: Structure every piece of content around conversion psychology.

The Framework: For every piece of content, AI must address:

  • Hook: What stops the scroll?

  • Problem: What pain are we solving?

  • Agitation: Why does this matter NOW?

  • Solution: How do we solve it?

  • Proof: Why should they believe us?

  • Action: What's the next step?

The Prompt Template:

Create [CONTENT TYPE] for [AUDIENCE] about [TOPIC].

Structure:

Hook: [Specific instruction for your niche]

Problem: Reference [SPECIFIC PAIN POINT FROM RESEARCH]

Solution: Position [YOUR PRODUCT/SERVICE] as the answer

Proof: Include [SPECIFIC METRIC/CASE STUDY]

CTA: Drive toward [SPECIFIC ACTION]

Brand voice: [YOUR PERSONA FROM WORKFLOW 1] Conversion goal: [SPECIFIC METRIC YOU'RE TARGETING]

Ask me any clarifying questions before you proceed.

^ Copy/paste the prompt above

The Quality Gate: Before publishing, run this check: "Does this content make the reader want to [TAKE YOUR DESIRED ACTION]? If not, what's missing?"

Workflow #3: The Rapid Testing Engine

The Problem: Creating enough content variations to test takes forever.

The Solution: Use AI to generate multiple angles, then test systematically.

The Process:

  • Generate 10 angles on the same topic using different psychological triggers

  • Create variations of your best-performing content

  • A/B test systematically across channels

The Angle Generator Prompt:

Create 10 different angles for content about [TOPIC] targeting [AUDIENCE].

Use these psychological triggers (one per angle):

- Fear of missing out

- Social proof

- Authority/expertise

- Urgency/scarcity

- Problem/solution

- Before/after transformation

- Insider secrets

- Beginner-friendly

- Advanced tactics

- Contrarian take

For each angle provide:

- Headline

- Key argument

- Emotional hook

- CTA direction

Ask me any clarifying questions before you proceed.

^ Copy/paste prompt above

The Testing Framework:

  • Week 1: Test 3 angles

  • Week 2: Double down on the winner with 3 variations

  • Week 3: Test the winning variation across different channels

  • Week 4: Optimize based on conversion data

The HubSpot Connection

If you use HubSpot to track all this content performance, here's how to make AI and HubSpot work together:

  • Use HubSpot data to inform your AI prompts (which topics drive the most leads?)

  • A/B test AI-generated subject lines in HubSpot email campaigns

  • Track conversion paths from AI content to see what actually drives revenue

  • Feed performance data back into your AI prompts for continuous improvement

Reality Check: What Actually Works

After 12 months of testing, here's what I've learned:

What Works:

  • Systematic workflows with clear quality gates

  • Training AI on your specific winning content

  • Testing multiple variations of everything

  • Combining AI speed with human strategy

What Doesn't:

  • One-shot prompts expecting perfect content

  • Generic AI content without brand training

  • Publishing AI content without human review

  • Focusing on output volume over conversion quality

Your 30-Day Action Plan

  • Week 1: Set up your brand voice persona using Workflow #1

  • Week 2: Create 5 pieces of content using the conversion framework from Workflow #2

  • Week 3: Generate 10 angles on your best topic using Workflow #3

  • Week 4: Test the top 3 angles and measure results

The Bottom Line

AI won't replace good strategy or conversion expertise. But it will 10x your ability to execute on that strategy consistently. The teams winning with AI aren't the ones with the best prompts—they're the ones with the best systems. What's your biggest AI content challenge? Hit reply and let me know.
